Aaron Pierce
Kiwi born Aaron Pierce took his first surf photo in 1995 during a surf trip surf trip to a remote part of East coast New Zealand. After a board snapping, leash breaking, near drowning experience he picked up a mates camera and took a few shots. He was totally blown away by one of the photos and was hooked.
Aaron has been based in Strandhill, Ireland since 2000 to travel and surf. During his time in Ireland he has discovered Bulmers cider and Guiness (his personal best is 23 pints of Bulmers in one session and he was still able to walk home without falling over!) but by his own admission it's had an affect on the dimensions of his midriff which has kept him out of the water more often, other than the occasional surf on his log. But it has allowed him more photography time.
"I get a huge kick out of photography, especially when the surf is big. I have a huge passion for Aileens in Ireland. I first saw it break in May 2005 when my parents came over for a visit and we took a boat trip past the Cliffs of Moher and what I saw was these totally amazing clean barrels firing in front of me. It wasn't big but perfect, ever since then I have been drawn there whenever the swell is big and I have time off work" (Aaron's day job is driving 120ton track mounted cranes)

As for his future plans, "I plan to take a few of the boys out to a couple of big wave spots I've found and try them out. I also want to photograph the biggest wave in the world ever to be surfed, hopefully this will happen next winter now that we know what to expect, things are going to get freaky next winter so watch this space...."
Aaron has a hugely positive outlook to his photography, which is one of the reasons we're so stoked to have some of his work featured here, "I have the attitude when doing photography that I take photos to give to the people surfing on that day. I think when they're gonna look back in 50 years they not only have stories to tell there grandchildren but a few photos as well and hopefully it will bring back that feeling ya get when ya have an epic surf" For more information on Aaron Pierce's work visit: www.liquid-storm.com
Russell Ord
Russell Ord (aka: Sword) is based in Margaret River West Australia with his wife Catherine and three kids Kalani, Tavian and Ayla. Sword is producing some of the finest most radical surf shots of recent times by focusing on and capturing new extreme waves in some of the most remote parts of the WA coastline. He recently scored on a trip with Justin Allport (you need crew like this to surf waves like this) by just buzzing around on jet ski's in the middle of the ocean based on word from a fisherman. Sword has been shooting for seven years but only maybe the last three that the surf photography is slowly covering the expense of the actual trip by landing a few covers with Tracks and Surfer Magazine plus getting regular runs in Surfers Path and others. Northcore™ are really pleased to be able to highlight some of his work because producing such stand out images in a time when surf photography is pushing the boundries makes them all the more extraordinary. He's weird, he's wild, he's loved, and he's hated, but mostly, he's just misunderstood. No matter what you think of him, he's an amazing photographer and always brings out the best in the world's best surfers. Here's his work, here's his passion. Look now, because the next thing you know he'll be shooting photos of Marilyn Mansons bare ass at a concert sometime soon--lucky for fans of surf photography, he's still with us, for now. - Chris Cote
