Will Masterman

Will Masterman

Will was born in Jersey, Channel Islands in June 2002 but stems from a long Lincolnshire family lineage. He started surfing at the age of 8 with a local surf school and was instantly hooked. Will then began his road onto the competitive surf scene at 10 years of age progressing through a steep learning curve over the last 4 years to the point where he has successfully competed in British competitions and represented the Channel Islands at the ESF Junior Championships in Morroco.

Living on an island makes traveling tricky for Will but he tells us he has been extremely fortunate to have surfed his dream destination of Hawaii along with other top surf spots in Ireland, Scotland, France, Portugal and Morocco.

Whilst his aim is to go as far as he can in competitive surfing Will tells us that surfing will always be a part of his life. "Surfing has taught me so much about people, life, respecting the ocean and others and it keeps you fit and healthy. I've made so many friends around the world already by doing something I love. Having a top brand like Northcore recognise and support me means a lot".

Moe recently, Will won the under 16 English National Championship title back in May 2018. He was selected for the English Surf under 16's team that were heading to the Euros in Santa Cruz, Portugal. However due to rulings concerning Federations the ESF would not allow him to surf for England at that event! This was a disappointment for Will but was also fortunate as he wouldn't have been able to compete due to a nasty fin cut injury he got on his ankle prior to his heat at the WSL European Pro Junior Event in Sopelana.

Will spent the summer down in France and managed to train with others. Luckily, his wound healed just in time for the final event of the RipCurl Grom Search in Croyde. Will narrowly missed out on the win for the event, coming 2nd to Stan Norman by 0.36! He managed to secure the highest points total (with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place) and will represent the UK at the RipCurl Grom Search World Final - Date TBC. In the coming months, Will has a training trip planned to the WACO wave pool in Texas befoe heading off to California with his French coach Didier Piter.
