Workout with the Northcore Zen Balance Board

Core strength, balance and stability are vital elements for most adventure sports like surfing, kayaking, SUP or kitesurfing. So we’ve created a simple workout using the Zen balance board to blast your core, legs, arms and chest ready for your next session!  This workout programme can be used as a standalone workout or to add to your existing training program. Work on these exercises regularly and you will see improvements in strength and balance.

Exercise 1:

Once you’ve mastered the basics of standing on the Zen Board you can mix things up with this fun hand, eye, balance coordination challenge to use as a warm-up.

Take a tennis ball and have a friend throw the ball back and forth to you. Try different throwing and catching angles and keep going until the legs start to fatigue.

Exercise 2:

This is where we step up the intensity. This exercise is a simple squat but performed on the Zen Board. Place your feet at the ends of the board and slowly lower into a squat position, then power back up.

The movement needs to be slow with the core engaged and try 3 sets of 8-12 reps.

Exercise 3:

We’re moving onto upper body strength now while retaining the need for core strength and balance. This exercise is a basic push up but performed on the Zen Board. Place your hands at the ends of the board and begin your standard press up.

Keep movement steady with the core engaged so that your form remains good with no dropping or raising of the hips! 3 sets of 8-12 reps.

Exercise 4:

We’ve saved the best till last as this exercise really pushes the full body to work. Essentially this exercise is a basic push again but performed with feet on the Zen Board rather than hands.

Place your feet towards the ends of the board, find your balance point and begin your standard press up. Keep movement steady with the core engaged. 3 sets of 8-12 reps. Have fun!
