Ismaïla Samb was born and raised in Ngor, Dakar. Growing up in a fishing village was pretty much his first step to get in touch with the Atlantic ocean. Seeing surfers paddling around the Cape Verde peninsula in Dakar in his childhood has triggered Ismaïla's interest in the sport of surfing. At the age of 9 years old, he started catching his first waves with a piece of something. Since that day Ismaïla has spent most of the time in the water with his friends surfing in front of his house and collecting old broken boards from tourists.
"I feel blessed that a European brand has reached out and shown interest in me and my surfing."
His determination hasn't only qualified him for the national championship which he became first place (age group under 17) in 2009, he's also a keen student and close to his graduation. Ismaïla said he is absolutely stoked about joining the Northcore team and he can't wait to put a sticker on the board and go surfing again and hopefully participate in international competitions in the future.
"I feel blessed that a European brand has reached out and shown interest in me and my surfing. I can't wait to show my brothers and friends of what's possible when you keep trying and stay focused on achieving certain goals in life. This is just the beginning!"
