Newquay’s First Surf & Turf Aquathlon

Newquay’s First Surf & Turf Aquathlon

We were proud to support the first-ever Surf & Turf Aquathlon in Newquay, an event that brought together over 70 participants for a 400m sea swim followed by a 5km run through the town and out to the Headland.

Set against a backdrop of good conditions and early-season sunshine, the event delivered exactly what grassroots sport should: a well-run, community-driven day that got people active and brought the town together.

From the swim start to the run route and through to the finish line on the Killacourt, there was a strong turnout of locals, supporters and businesses creating a great atmosphere throughout. It felt like more than just a race, something that reflects the kind of coastal lifestyle we’re all about.

The addition of free live music into the evening helped extend the day beyond the competition itself, giving people a reason to stay in town, support local businesses, and make the most of it.

At Northcore, supporting events like this is a big part of what we do. Surf & Turf is exactly the kind of grassroots initiative that helps build stronger communities while encouraging people to get outside and make the most of where they live.

For a first event, the turnout and organisation were spot on, and it’s clear there’s a real appetite for more. We’re looking forward to seeing Surf & Turf return in September and continue to grow into a key part of Newquay’s calendar.

Events like this showcase the best of the UK’s coastal communities—and we’re proud to be part of it
