THE LS/FF SHORTIES X NORTHCORE 2023 OPEN

We are very excited to share the news that Northcore are title sponsors of the 12th annual London Surf / Film Shorties short film contest. An ever evolving display of creativity within surfing - with past winners including Seth Hughes, Jimmy Penfield, Bella Bunce, and Chris McClean.

The goal? To showcase and support British and Irish filmmaking talent, with a £500 film fund awarded to the winning short. The Shorties submissions close: 23rd October.

ENTRIES

The brief is pretty loose, allowing emerging and established filmmakers to explore varying themes through varied media. Where be it short-form documentary, non-stop shred edit, stop-motion animation, or a complete smorgasbord of styles. All are welcome.

“In this competition, it’s not about whether your waves are big or small, it’s about the way you choose to shoot them, or not. After all there’s more than one way to tell a surf story.”

The only rule being that the film must be no longer than 5 minutes in length.

HISTORY

The Shorties were first launched back in 2011 as a platform to showcase the wealth of talent we have here on home shores. However, it has quickly become one of the most prestigious competitions for surf filmmakers around the globe.

“As always we’ll be seeking out those projects that bring a fresh perspective to our culture, whether that’s through exceptional story telling, surfing, cinematography or creativity.”

To say we’re stoked is an understatement. Here’s a few words from our very own Lauren Garner:

“LS/FF is a joyous celebration of surf culture and a showcase for talent, both in front of the camera and behind it. It’s a fantastic space for new and established filmmakers to express themselves in shorter form – we can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with.”

PAST WINNERS

To hopefully provide a little inspiration, here are a few of the past winners to include Seth Hughes & Izzy Henshall, Jo Guthrie & Lucy Hawes, Jimmy Penfield, Chris Case, Crayfish Films, and heaps more.

Enjoy.
